| I took
an interest in DJing purely
by accident - it all started
when I got a set of cheap
decks so that I could play
the records I was buying
at the time. One thing led
to another and, before I
knew it, I was totally immersed
in the world of DJing. Since
mastering the basics of
mixing, I’ve always
enjoyed DJing in public
due to the feelings I can
summon in my audience -
from the euphoria of trance,
to the passion of house,
to the intensity of harder
sounds. I’ve never
felt the need to tie myself
down to one type of music.
I was exposed to many different
kinds of music in my infancy,
and this ultimately led
to me developing interest
in many of today's EDM genres.
With all the new music and
ideas that are constantly
flying round in my head,
chances are you'll never
see me play the same set
twice! I see myself as
a warm up DJ. While most
people are obsessed with
the idea of being the
big name at the top of
the flyer and playing
the main set, I’m
far more content to play
early and warm up the
night. This means that
I can be more selective
and creative with the
music I play, and that
I am not expected to play
familiar tracks and anthems.
I have found that I prefer
playing tracks that are
largely unknown to the
crowds, as opposed to
anthems that everyone
has heard, as not using
anthems presents the DJ
with more of a challenge
in motivating the crowd
– it is this challenge
that I enjoy undertaking,
and for this reason more
than any other I love
standing behind the decks,
spinning my records and
watching the crowd do
what they came to do -
have a damned good time!
